The Doheny Longboard Surfing Association Competition Team has a long and very rich history.
Our Team Members range from Micro Groms at 10 years and under to
Extreme Legends who are over 70 years old.

The team is comprised of many seasoned competitors,
including, pro-level surfers and “True Legends” in the sport of surfing.
Resulting in D.L.S.A. winning top Competition Team
overall in many seasons of Coalition contests.

Doheny Longboard Surfing Association
Competition Team Qualifying Guidelines

A competition team Member must meet the following guidelines:

* Must be a current member in good standing to participate in Doheny Longboard Surfing Association contests.

* Those individuals currently seeking membership can compete in club contests at the discretion of the officers and board of directors by a majority vote (these include the interclub contests: Cardiac and 60's Contest)

*The Current highest point holders in each age group will have first choice to surf in a Coalition of Surfing Clubs series contest. If the highest point holders do not sign up for an event, it will be given to the next highest point holder in that division.

* It is the Member's job to sign up no later than eight weeks prior to the event with the Team Captain (For that event). If the Member does not sign up the Team Captain will go down the point list to fill the vacant top two spots.

* We are given two spots for each age group and two alternate spots. If you want to support your team, you can always sign up far an alternate spot. The alternate spots are left open to all D.L.S.A. Members. At certain events we do get most alternates in. See the Team captain for those events.

HOW DO YOU GET POINTS?

* Points are awarded to the top six (D.L.S.A. Member) finalists in each division at all D.L.S.A. Club and Coalition series contests (see official contest list below). Six points for 1st, five points for 2nd, four points for 3rd, three points for 4th, two points for 5th and one point for 6th place.

Qualifying Events for Top Competitor points.

* January (or revised date) - D.L.S.A. Gathering Of The Tribes. Includes both long and short boarding. (Alternate spots given to members working the event)

* March (or revised date) - D.L.S.A. Cardiac. Includes both long and short boarding.
* May - Santa Cruz Memorial, a Coalition series event. Point leaders get priority.

* June - D.L.S.A. 60's Vintage Board Contest. Includes ride your own and pick a stick.

* June - D.L.S.A. Menehune and Junior Championship Contest. Open to all members 17 and under.

* July - Malibu Boardriders, Call To The Wall Contest, a Coalition series event. Point leaders get priority.

* August - Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club Contest, a Coalition series event. Point leaders get priority.

* September - Malibu Surfing Association Contest, a Coalition series event. Point leaders get priority.

* September - D.L.S.A. Dale Velzy Classic.

* October - Swami's Club Contest, a Coalition series event. Point leaders get priority.

* November - Windansea Club Contest, a Coalition series event. Includes both long and short boarding. Point leaders get priority.

How the D.L.S.A. top Competitor Rankings work:

The Rankings are listed in order, with the top competitor of each division listed at the top. Ranking points are awarded for making it to the finals in the qualifying contests listed at the top of this page. Top competitor points are awarded in the following manner:
          1st place = 6 points             4th place = 3 points
          2nd place = 5 points             5th place = 2 points
          3rd place = 4 points             6th place = 1 point
Note:
Longboard and Shortboard competition points are combined for each contest to show the point leaders in each division.

The competition Team Rankings are based upon the results of each qualifying contest submitted by the Team Captain, Katie Calkins.
The points are double checked against the results as well as the mathematical calculations too. But it is ultimately up to you to keep track of your own points and to be personally aware of your standings. You should immediately notify the team captain and the webmaster if you see any discrepancies in either the results or points listed here. Although the utmost care is given to try and make sure everything is always accurate, mistakes may occur from time to time. Any errors will be corrected immediately when found.
