Volunteers needed for the Dale Velzy Contest and Luau

Don’t forget to attend the monthly general membership meeting of the Doheny Longboard Surfing Association Saturday morning  at 9:30 a.m.

We will be signing up people to work at our 21^st Annual Velzy Contest and Luau at the end of the month (Saturday Sep. 25).  This is going to be the best Luau ever and you don’t want to   miss working and surfing with all you DLSA pals.  If you can’t attend the meeting, please e-mail me with the time(s) you can assist with helping us put on this great even.  Thank you for  your support.

21st Annual Dale Velzy Surf Classic and Luau is coming this September

The Doheny Longboard Surfing Associations (DLSA) annual Dale Velzy Surf Classic and Luau date has been selected.  The club selects event dates based on twenty plus years of predicting the optimum swell and tide opportunities. This year’s classic venue will be held on Saturday, September 25th, 2010 at the legendary Boneyard section of Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California.

Open to everyone who loves waves and good times, the event honors one of surfing’s most famous surfboard shapers of all time – Dale Velzy who passed away in 2005.  This is a special program for the DLSA as the club has been holding this classic this venue for over two decades.  By design, the Velzy is for all who enjoy the same things that Dale enjoyed, mostly having fun with friends and family.  It is in that spirit that the DLSA holds this annual event so that everyone can enjoy everything from the surf contest, the luau, Polynesian review and dancing under the stars at Doheny with a live band.

“This 21^st edition of the surf classic has a very special place in the hearts of all Doheny Longboard Members.  Dale Velzy was a important person to all of us in the club and this program is our yearly tribute to one of the true pioneers of the sport” said Nyles Schafhauser, DLSA’s President.

This year’s event kicks off with the surf contest at 6:30 a.m. The Luau festivities begin at 3:00 p.m. followed closely by the Polynesian review, awards ceremony, raffles and then on to the dancing.  It’s great fun for everyone.

Classic & Luau

This is a Longboard, SUP, and Tandem event.

Doheny State Beach, Saturday September 25^th 2010

Contest starts at 6:30am, Luau Doors open at 3:00pm.

Earlybird entry fees: Adult contestants $55, $35 for 14 & under. Entry includes event T-shirt and 1 Luau Ticket. Tandem is $110 for the team and includes event T-shirts and Luau tickets. For additional Luau tickets only: Adult Luau tickets $30, $15 for 6 to 10, & 5 & under free. Luau includes food-drinks, Polynesian Review, and Music. Entry’s received after Sept 20^th add $10 for contest & Luau only add $5.
